Tümosan Konyaspor’s coach Çağdaş Atan, who lost 4-0 away to Fenerbahçe in the 16th week of the Trendyol Super League, made remarkable statements after the match. Atan reacted to the referee management over the penalty decision and VAR practices that affected the fate of the match.
Emphasizing that the match was bad for them, the young coach said, “It was a bad evening for us. I congratulate Fenerbahçe, they played well and won. There is nothing to say about this. However, a similar situation occurred in the Rizespor match last week, the midfielder stepped on the opponent’s foot unintentionally and a penalty could have been given. Anatolian teams do not play these positions. There is a serious difference in the balance of giving and taking. It should not be such an easy penalty.”
Continuing his criticism on the VAR referee, Atan said, “You take the match and move it from one side to the other. There is Sarper Barış Saka in VAR. He had left refereeing, why is he working in VAR?” He expressed his reaction by saying.
Stating that the breaking point of the match was the penalty, Çağdaş Atan said, “We conceded the goal from the penalty in the 27th minute. I think things were not bad until that minute. Except for one position, we gave almost nothing to the opponent. After the penalty, we played like a nightmare until the 45th minute. The score was broken in that part as well.”
Referring to the process his team is going through, Atan said, “You come to Istanbul, your opponent is Fenerbahçe and if you think you can achieve something by playing without touching the soap and water, it would be a dream. We are going through a painful process. This was not our target match, but we wanted to get more positive things out of today.”
Drawing attention to Konyaspor’s upcoming fixtures, Çağdaş Atan concluded his statements by saying, “Our target matches are from now on. We will play three of the four matches at home. I believe that we will gain an upward momentum after our shortcomings are corrected. We need to catch up with this anyway.”
