René Karst has been posthumously honored in the list of lists. The singer from Hoogeveen, who died in November, is in the NPO Radio 2 Top 2000 with two songs.

That’s his number A little something for the atmosphere in place 153. The song by Karst and Stef Ekkel – Rather too thick in the box – was voted by the public to position 306. It is the first time that Karst’s songs have ended up in the Top 2000.

Of Rather too thick in the box Karst also achieved national fame in 2016. A little something for the atmosphere was his second blockbuster. He received a Buma NL Award for both songs.

Other people from Drenthe who managed to conquer a place in the Top 2000 are Skik met On bicycles (place 292), Marco Schuitmaker with Guardian Angel (388), Hannah Mae (place 467 and 1998) Daniël Lohues (places 616 and 849) Cuby + Blizzards (places 489, 1597 and 1709) and Henk Wijngaard (1673).

René Karst is of course also well represented in the Drentse 1000, Radio Drenthe’s end-of-year list. The Hoogeveen singer has been a permanent fixture on the list since the beginning of the Drenthe 1000, but after his death this has only become more so.

For example, virtually all of Karst’s songs – both his solo work and from the time of Duo Karst – are higher on the list than last year. A number of new songs have also been added. Last year Karst appeared on the list 13 times, this year no less than 36 times.

Naturally, the Drenthe 1000 contains many other Drenthe artists. We won’t reveal too much yet, but of course Daniël Lohues, Cuby + Blizzards, Jannes and Mooi Wark are not missing.

The Drentse 1000 can be heard from Wednesday 24 December. The kick-off is at 12 noon.
