An elderly man was injured on Sunday evening after possibly driving at walking pace on the A58. According to witnesses, a motorist could not avoid the man in the Suzuki Alto near Gilze and crashed into the back of the car. The second car was then also hit by a car coming from behind.

The car came to a stop about three hundred meters further against a guardrail. The rear of the Suzuki is completely assembled.

The driver became trapped in his car, the fire brigade cut out the doors so that the man could be freed. The driver has been taken to hospital. He also had a chihuahua in his car. The police took care of the animal.

Driving with a homecoming
The two other drivers were checked at the scene and did not require hospital treatment.

The police are investigating why the man was driving at walking pace on the highway. The car had a so-called ‘homecomertje’ on it, which is a spare wheel with which you are not allowed to drive faster than eighty kilometers per hour.

Traffic stands still for an hour and a half
The accident happened on the A58 from Breda to Tilburg between the Gilze and Goirle exits. Traffic came to a standstill for more than an hour and a half because the highway was completely closed.

After an hour and a half, traffic was directed past the accident. The highway is then closed again to all traffic.
