Lukas Wenig is the first German to suffer defeat at this Darts World Cup. Nevertheless, he can definitely take positive things from his debut in “Ally Pally”.

Lukas Wenig was eliminated from his first appearance at the Darts World Cup in London’s Alexandra Palace. The 31-year-old lost 1:3 to Dutchman Wesley Plaisier and ended his debut early.

The darts player from Marburg started his match against Plaisier nervously and quickly fell behind. After a short break, Wenig was able to equalize to make it 1-1. But Plaisier remained unimpressed and ultimately won the game. He used his second match dart to advance to the next round.

Wenig commented on his performance to DAZN: “Ultimately it was a roller coaster ride from start to finish. I never really found my way into my game and was very nervous.” Despite the defeat, Wenig was enthusiastic about his first World Cup experience in the “Ally Pally”. He described the experience as “indescribable” and “brilliant.”

While Wenig was eliminated, other German participants such as Arno Merk and Gabriel Clemens successfully played their opening games. Merk defeated Belgian Kim Huybrechts, while Clemens, who reached the semifinals in 2023, won against American Alex Spellman. A total of eight German players are represented at the World Cup, with the greatest hopes resting on Martin Schindler, who is currently ranked 13th in the world.
