Here’s what happened in the last round of the top men’s volleyball championship

Matteo Marchetti and Mauro Giustozzi

December 14 – 9.29pm – MILAN

The heart of Trento, capable of going down twice and overturning it, interrupting Piacenza’s streak of victories. In Padova, however, the best on the pitch is Masulovic, who carries the team on his shoulders and drags them to victory against Cisterna. Modena also wins against Verona. The success of Civitanova over Milan also stands out. Lube still unbeaten at home.

TRENTO-PIACENZA 3-2 (22-25, 25-19, 15-25, 25-21, 15-9)

Trento takes a risk, goes behind twice but finds the strength to react, wins consecutive victory number 25 at home and above all ends the first half of the season in command, taking advantage of the stop in Verona. Piacenza, on the other hand, interrupts the series of 6 successes in a row between the Super League and the CEV Cup but confirms fourth place in the Super League at the end of a match played in spurts by the two teams. The service was especially decisive, with the guests good at commanding in the first and third sets and the hosts always attached to the match and also capable of leaning on a wall that had grown over the course of the match. The fifth set sees the guests get off to a better start, but then they come to a standstill when Itas changes pace and flies to conquer success and lead in the standings.

In the beautiful fight between the high-ball attackers, with Gardini excellent at 18 and the hosts Guzzo and Lanza great protagonists and over 50 percent in attack, Polo also enters: the Sonepar centre-back finishes with 82 percent on goal and 13 points which are worth gold in the rankings, bringing the Paduans to ninth place, just one point behind Monza.

Despite the absence of the suspended Nikolov, the Marche team showed off a sumptuous Loeppky (mvp and top scorer) well supported by Bottolo and the surprising Iranian Khanzadeh, with superlative Gargiulo and Podrascanin blocking. Allianz faded away after the first set: only Reggers’ pride dragged them to the fifth of a match whose ending was however sealed.
