Past: Ajax – Feyenoord 2-0
We conclude today’s live blog with Correia’s preview of Hoek in the KNVB Cup. Thank you for following our live blog, which was largely devoted to Ajax’s winning Classic. We will be there again next Tuesday when Telstar visits Zeeland and AFC hosts NEC at home. See you then!
Aalsmeer has won the match in the Super Handball League against Hubo. The score is 33-27 for the handball players in their own sports hall De Bloemhof. With the victory they take over fifth place from their Belgian competitor.
Volendam, the other North Holland team in the competition, was too strong for last-place Houten yesterday with 40-28. We find Geert Hinskens’ team in shared third place.
The tennis player from Hoofddorp takes his second national title in Amstelveen. De Jong lived up to his role as favorite and was too strong for Daniel de Jonge in the final with 7-6 (6) and 7-5.
Davy Klaassen enjoyed Ajax’s game in the home match against Feyenoord (2-0). “It may not have been the most sparkling match, from both sides. But if you play like this, few teams here will beat us,” the captain said during a flash interview shortly after the bicentenary edition of De Klassieker.
“I saw a real team,” the midfielder continues. “Hard work is part of it, that is the basis. When you win 2-0 like that and you feel the whole atmosphere here, I get goosebumps.”
Ajax wins this 200th Classic after beautiful goals from Davy Klaassen and Jorthy Mokio. The team from Amsterdam booked their fourth win in a row and rose to third place in the Premier League.
It is decided in the Johan Cruijff Arena. Jorthy Mokio hits a brilliant shot after a pass from Mika Godts and the Belgian makes it 2-0 in this Classic.
Injury time has arrived and there are at least six minutes left to play in this Classic.
Ajax could have decided it much earlier. Once again substitute Fitz-Jim is the end point of an attack, but once again his shot goes wide of the goal.
Ayase Ueda suddenly gets a big chance there. His half bicycle kick goes over high from close range from a corner.
There is another great opportunity for Ajax. Kian Fitz-Jim tries to outwit goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther with his left. However, his shot goes wide of the goal. All in all, there seems to be an exciting last fifteen minutes to come.
Mika Godts almost shoots the ball into the goal. The Belgian dribbles in and takes a shot. His effort goes just wide. Kasper Dolberg leaves for the young Don-Angelo Konadu.
Oscar Gloukh goes alone to the Feyenoord goal. Yet he is stopped just in time by Anel Ahmedzovic.
Another double substitution at Ajax. Sean Steur and Oscar Gloukh are substituted for Jorthy Mokio and Rayane Bounida.
Oscar Gloukh heads the ball just over Feyenoord’s goal. Ajax’s first big danger in the second half. Luciano Valente, the most important player for the Rotterdam team, must then be substituted.
Owen Wijndal and Davy Klaassen leave. Anton Gaaei and Kian Fitz-Jim are their replacements.
Luciano Valente sends off Ayase Ueda, the top scorer of the premier league. The Japanese striker hits the ball over goalkeeper Viteszlav Jaros. That is Feyenoord’s biggest chance so far.
Moments later, Gijs Smal drives the ball hard into Ajax’s side net. The people of Amsterdam are having a great time in this phase.
The Amsterdam korfball players are facing a disadvantage. The visitors from Eindhoven lead 13-10 in Amsterdam.
Ajax leads 1-0 in De Klassieker against Feyenoord. Davy Klaassen scores the only goal so far. See you soon!
After a nice attack via Sean Steur and Oscar Gloukh, the ball ends up at the feet of Davy Klaassen. He just can’t hit and is also offside. That leaves it only 1-0.
Moments later, Kasper Dolberg is dangerous with a shot. Goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther can turn the shot.
Kasper Dolberg can score from the edge of the penalty area. His effort rolls just wide of the left side of the post. The Dane has already scored three goals in De Klassieker, all in De Kuip.
A minute later, the Ajax players come very close to scoring again. Davy Klaassen passes to Sean Steur, but the young midfielder cannot score.
Davy Klaassen shoots the ball hard into the goal against Feyenoord. Ajax takes the lead in De Klassieker via ‘Mister 1-0’.
Mika Godts conquers the ball from Feyenoord’s axis. He plays to Oscar Gloukh and the Israeli shoots straight at goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther.
On the other hand, the people of Rotterdam are becoming very dangerous. Luciano Valente delivers the ball to Bart Nieuwkoop and his header goes just over.
We have started the 200th Classic. Can Ajax win?
Swart played 28 Classics, spread over Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Wim Suurbier (25 matches) and Piet Keizer (23) follow close behind in the Ajax players’ rankings. Bennie Muller (22) and Danny Blind (21) are also in the top five.
From the current Ajax selection, Davy Klaassen is the leader in terms of Classics played. He played fifteen and won ten of them. Only three players won more often on behalf of Ajax against Feyenoord than Klaassen.
This weekend’s Classic is an anniversary edition. The confrontation between Ajax and Feyenoord in the Johan Cruijff ArenA was the 200th edition of De Klassieker. Ajax and Feyenoord (then still Feijenoord) met for the first time on October 9, 1921 in the First Division West.
In Rotterdam the match – it was not yet a Classic – ended in a 2-3 victory for Ajax. But after fierce protests from the Rotterdam team, the result was changed to 2-2. That controversy sowed the seeds for the sporting rivalry between the two clubs.
