According to a spokesperson for the safety region, several people became nauseous. It is said to be a harmless substance. “It made people sick because it smelled,” the spokesperson said.
The substance was reported around 4:30 PM, when a performance had just ended. According to the spokesperson, the audience was already walking outside. To be on the safe side, the fire brigade also evacuated the remaining people in the building.
Entrance hosed down
A witness tells AT5 that the liquid was thrown inside, but the spokesperson cannot confirm this.
The spokesperson tells NH that the fire brigade is currently ventilating the building and taking measurements. Firefighters hosed down part of the entrance, wearing special suits.
It is unclear whether the Concertgebouw will open again tonight.
