With the majority, SC Paderborn leaves nothing to be desired against Karlsruher SC. Kaiserslautern fails in the promotion race.
SC Paderborn celebrated an important victory in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga and won 4-0 at Karlsruher SC. The Paderborn team benefited from a sending-off against Karlsruhe’s Fabian Schleusener, who was shown a yellow-red card after a swallow in the 52nd minute. Laurin Curda scored with a brace (65th and 71st minutes), Raphael Obermair (78th) and Tjark Scheller (86th) to win Paderborn. In the final phase, Karlsruhe’s Marcel Franke (83′) also saw a yellow-red card.
Thanks to the victory, Paderborn is now in second place with 32 points. Elversberg and Darmstadt can pass again on Sunday. The KSC remains in eighth place with 21 points and is sliding deeper into the crisis after five defeats in a row. In the parallel games, Magdeburg and Kiel drew 3-3, Bielefeld and Kaiserslautern scored 0-0.
In the wildlife park, the guests had significantly more of the game from the first minute. Shortly before the break, the SCP were close to the reward they deserved, but Curda’s header (44′) landed on the crossbar.
The KSC was previously lucky that referee Timo Gansloweit and the VAR left it yellow after Marcel Franke hit Nick Bätzner hard. However, Franke then received a yellow-red card in the final phase (83′) for repeated foul play.
The KSC came out of the break transformed, Leon Opitz headed the ball into the goal on the deep grass (48th), but the goal was disallowed due to a foul during the game. Tempers remained agitated: KSC attacker Fabian Schleusener saw yellow-red after a swallow (53′).
Afterwards, Karlsruhe’s goalkeeper Hans Christian Bernat became more and more in focus, and the Dane was overcome by Curda’s powerful header after a precise cross from Fabian Götze. After that, the KSC had nothing left to oppose.
Red lantern handed in, victory missed: Kellerkind 1. FC Magdeburg continues to work its way out of the crisis. After two recent wins, interim coach Petrik Sander’s team separated from Holstein Kiel 3:3 (2:1). This means that the FCM is no longer in last place in the table for the first time since the fifth matchday. After a committed performance, more would have been possible against the relegated team from the Bundesliga. Steven Skrzybski saved Kiel from a lucky draw in stoppage time (90+2).
