The Eisbären Berlin have to accept another defeat after two wins in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).

The German champions lost 3:5 (1:1, 1:3, 1:1) at the Straubing Tigers on Friday evening after a momentous weak phase in the second third. Manuel Wiederer, Markus Vikingstad and Yannick Veilleux scored for the capital city team.

In front of 5,417 spectators at the Pulverturm ice rink, the home team got off to a powerful start and took the lead in the ninth minute with a goal from Adrian Klein. Shortly afterwards, Wiederer took advantage of one of Berlin’s few chances and scored the equalizer after a counterattack (12′).

The Berlin team conceded three goals in the second third

After the first break, Vikingstad scored the guests’ second goal (24th) after clever preparatory work by Leonhard Pföderl. But then the Straubingers improved, while the polar bears increasingly lost their line. Justin Scott (30th), Tyler Madden (31st) and Skyler McKenzie (38th) gave Lower Bavaria a 4-2 lead with their goals.

In the final section, the Berliners braced themselves against the impending defeat. After Veilleux’s goal (44th), they missed some clear opportunities. Instead, Nicholas Halloran scored the hosts’ fifth goal (56th).
