This band has also had to deal with allegations of abuse of power. Both a photographer close to Von Because of Lisbeth and her own band member Robert Tischer behaved inappropriately, those affected reported. The case was negotiated quite publicly, the band published statements, was initially criticized for their handling of the cases and finally decided on a “Code of Conduct”. That was a few months ago.
Now the Berliners are moving on with a new album. STRANDBAD ELDENA is really successful, the tracks come across as strangely floating and pleasantly sleepy, with a few poppy exceptions. Music boxes are opened and childlike melodies are played on xylophones. Oil barrels are used in the great piece “Kokon”.
Almost every song has a little surprise in terms of instrumentation and vocals. The lyrics also work towards punchlines with sophistication. In “Evolution” it says: “You should do what you don’t like doing first, okayokay: I miss you”. “Pluto” is reminiscent of Isolation Berlin in its melancholic humor, and “Mindset” amuses with its criticism of self-optimization coaches. Beach chairs lying in chains, plate tectonics, speechlessness: Lisbeth operates confidently with linguistic ideas and terms placed in unusual contexts. And the music is fun in its quirky carefree nature.
