HSV coach Merlin Polzin relies on atmosphere and statistics against TSG Hoffenheim. With thousands of fans behind him he wants to Hamburger SV end their own away misery on Saturday (3:30 p.m.).
Polzin appears combative before the game against the fifth-place team: He hopes for what feels like a home game, which it certainly will be when he thinks of “our boys and girls” who have provided a lot of loud support in recent years.
According to the club, 12,000 to 15,000 HSV fans are expected in the PreZero Arena, which has a total capacity of around 30,000 people. The Nordtribüne support group had previously called for people to stock up on tickets around the guest block under the motto “Everyone to Sinsheim”.
Polzin explained that the clear mandate was to go away not only to visit the stadiums, but also to be successful. The team recently won twice at home in a row, including the derby against Werder Bremen 3-2. They are currently in sixth place in the home table – but in last place away.
The coach now hopes that the fan effect will also be a good omen to break the series. The team wants to show that with the support behind them they can also deliver away from home.

HSV professional Nicolai Remberg regrets his behavior after the Hamburg derby win against Werder Bremen. The 25-year-old sparked a scuffle in front of the Werder bench by cheering provocatively. “That looked nasty for the Bremen players. I can understand their frustration,” said Remberg at an HSV Foundation event. He showed understanding for the Bremen players’ reaction to the provocation.
Remberg explained: “Such emotions are part of the game somewhere, because there is a lot at stake in a derby like this.” The midfielder emphasized: “Winning this gives you so many emotions. I was just relieved. That’s why it happened like that. But it wasn’t anything bad. It wasn’t like people really got together.”
The action had direct consequences for the HSV professional. The referee showed Remberg the yellow card at the end of the game. He is suspended for the next Bundesliga game at 1899 Hoffenheim.
Hamburger SV won the derby 3-2. Remberg and the injured Alexander Rössing-Lelesiit then cheered provocatively in front of the Bremen bench. This sparked a scuffle between several players and staff.
