VfB Suhl has reached the final of the DVV Cup and is aiming for its first title since 2008.
In the clash between the table neighbors in the Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL), coach Laszlo Hollosy’s team prevailed in a thriller with 3:2 (27:29, 25:20, 25:18, 16:25, 15:12) against defending champion Dresdner SC. In the final, which will be held in Mannheim on February 28th for the last time before moving to Cologne, VBL leaders Allianz MTV Stuttgart are now waiting.
In the duel between fourth and third, the guests grabbed the hard-fought first set. But Suhl didn’t let that bother him and confidently secured the next two rounds. With their backs against the wall, the Dresden team forced the decisive fifth set, in which the home team prevailed again and thus booked their ticket to the final.
After the cup triumph 17 years ago, Suhl made it to the final in 2010, 2011 and 2014. But VfB always left the field as losers.
