Update in Serie A

With the end of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A season, Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 627 players. This results in a change at the top of the most valuable professionals, while the former offensive star Neymar takes the next loss. For the 33-year-old from FC Santos, the deal is down from one million to 10 million euros. The last time he was worth that little was in 2010, in the early days of his career.
The main reasons for his ninth consecutive demotion are recurring injuries and his increasing age. At least he was able to prevent relegation from the Brazilian championship with Santos on the last matchday, but then announced a meniscus operation in his left knee. His contract expires at the end of the year.
While the red pencil is being applied to the former Barcelona professional, the market value curve for another ex-Catalan is pointing steeply in the other direction. Vitor Roque, Palmeiras’ top player, takes the lead in the Brazilian upper house after an increase of 15 million euros to 35 million euros. “Vitor Roque’s increasing importance to Palmeiras’ attack, coupled with improved consistency and decision-making in the final third, gives him a massive upgrade,” explains Marcos Watts, Area Manager Brazil at Transfermarkt, about the update’s top winner.
“His performances reflect growing maturity, better physical adaptation and increasing influence in important games, making him Palmeiras’ most important player in the second half of the season and a top target in the next European transfer window,” continued Watts. The 20-year-old, who was transferred to Barça for 30 million euros at the beginning of 2024 but returned to his homeland in February 2025 for 25.5 million euros, replaces Danilo at the top. The market value of the 24-year-old defensive midfielder from Botafogo falls from 28 million to 22 million euros, which is the biggest loss in the league.
Danilo slips down to a shared third place, alongside Vitor Roque he is also overtaken by Vasco da Gama’s striker Rayan. “The 19-year-old cements his position as Vasco’s most promising talent,” says Watts. “His technical development, quick movements in the penalty area and increased confidence at professional level indicate greater long-term potential, justifying a €7m increase in his market value.” The winger is now valued at 25 million euros.
Market values Brasileiro Série A: Kaio Jorge continues his steep rise
Another attacker to keep an eye on is Kaio Jorge. The center forward increases by 5 million to 22 million euros. “Since moving to Cruzeiro, Kaio Jorge has shown significant progress in terms of productivity and tactical maturity,” reports expert Watts. “With more playing time and visible confidence on the ball, he became the Brasileiro’s top goalscorer and his steady development leaves room for further significant increase in the future, after the ex-Juventus professional’s market value was still at 4.5 million euros at the beginning of the year.”
Teenager Kauã Prates is another promising Cruzeiro player. The 17-year-old left-back recorded one of the largest percentage increases at 500 percent and jumped from one million to 6 million euros. Watts said of the youngster: “Prates has developed into one of Cruzeiro’s most exciting young players, showing personality, versatility and a maturity beyond his age. Although his teammate Kaiki shines in the left-back position at Cruzeiro, Prates has received plenty of game time thanks to his talent throughout the season.”
Palmeiras outshines Brasileiro Série A
While Vitor Roque outshines everything in this update, Palmeiras has two other players with big gains: center forward José Manuel López and attacking midfielder Allan. “López has continued to develop and is now a more reliable option in Palmeiras’ attack,” says Watts. “He improved his goal participation, his positioning and his adaptability within the new attack with Vitor Roque and thereby secured a place in the Argentina national team.” As a result, the 25-year-old saw an increase of €8 million, the second largest in this update, to €20 million.
His teammate Allan will receive an increase of 6 million to 10 million euros. “Allan’s consistency, balance, vision and versatility made him an unexpected key element in Palmeiras’ midfield. His increased importance for the team and his current form are now also reflected in the market value,” said Watts. Palmeiras’ many winners ensure an increase in squad value from a good 20 million to 232 million euros, meaning the club from São Paulo is expanding its status as the most valuable team in the league.
This is how transfer market market values work
The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
