Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” premieres first 6-minute trailer ahead of IMAX screenings starting in December. The Homer epic with Matt Damon opens in July 2026.

Christopher Nolan’s new film “The Odyssey” is less than a year away from its release date and is one of the most anticipated films of 2026. Now a first preview is coming up: a six-minute extended trailer is to be shown during various IMAX screenings.

First look at “The Odyssey” is coming up

Many fans around the world can’t wait to finally see Christopher Nolan’s new epic. The film will be in cinemas from July 17, 2026. However, Universal will now give fans a first look at “The Odyssey” – a six-minute extended trailer is in the starting blocks.

To understand: The director filmed his work entirely with IMAX cameras. A six-minute prologue will now be shown before the IMAX screenings of other major films. From December 12th, IMAX screenings of the works “One Battle After Another” and “Sinners” will be shown – the trailer for “The Odyssey” is shown in advance. If you miss this, you have another chance on December 19th: The trailer will be shown before the IMAX screening of James Cameron’s “Avatar 3 – Fire and Ashes”.

What is it about and who is it?

“The Odyssey” will be released in theaters on July 17, 2026 and is an adaptation of the classic “The Odyssey” by Homer. The film will follow Odysseus, King of Ithaca, on his ten-year journey back to his homeland after the Trojan War.

Christopher Nolan brings together almost all the big names that Hollywood currently has to offer in the cast of his work. Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo and Elliot Page are in the cast.

“The best script I have ever read”

Tom Holland will play the role of Telemachus in the film. In advance he raved about the script and the collaboration with Christopher Nolan. He told Agence France-Presse about the script: “The best script I have ever read.” He also had nothing but praise for the director. Christopher Nolan knows exactly what he wants, but it’s not an environment in which you can’t bring in ideas to develop characters in a certain way.
