“Anyone who had the pleasure of being around him knew he was someone with infectious energy,” the band wrote on Instagram. “Over a career spanning more than three decades in which he entertained millions around the world, his creative contributions and unparalleled talent created a multicultural American music that reached far beyond America itself.”
The Mavericks released their eponymous debut album in 1990. The band’s most recent album, Moon & Stars, was released last year. Their biggest hit was in the Netherlands Dance the night away.
Malo won major awards with The Mavericks such as a Grammy and Academy of Country Music Awards and also had a solo career.
