Officers involved in the arrest of a 41-year-old man in Breda in January who died the following day will not be prosecuted. The Public Prosecution Service reported this on Tuesday after an investigation by the National Criminal Investigation Department.
The officers confronted the man on January 20 because he was walking in the middle of the road. That turned into a skirmish in which the suspect bit an officer. The man was subsequently arrested for assault.
After his arrest, he became unwell in the cell and was resuscitated. The man died in hospital a day later.
The Public Prosecution Service now concludes that none of the officers involved can be blamed after the man’s death and that they will therefore not be prosecuted.
