A 40-year-old Polish man has been sentenced to five years in prison for the attempted manslaughter of his half-brother. Previously, the man was sentenced to six years in prison.
The stabbing took place on December 24 last year in a chalet in Wijster. During that period, both men lived as migrant workers at Camping De Otterberg in Wijster
The judge called the incident a “near-fatal massacre.” The victim, three years younger, was stabbed at least seven times. Due to the way this happened, the man had the intention to kill the other, the judge ruled. “He violated the other person’s physical integrity in a shocking and gross manner,” the judge said.
Both brothers got into an argument under the influence of alcohol. The suspect stated that he was attacked by his half-brother. “There is no evidence of that,” the judge said. The 40-year-old man had little memory of what happened. And then said something different each time.
The man was psychologically examined and found to be less accountable. The judge believes that the suspect should also be treated and supervised in addition to prison time. The victim has been awarded compensation of more than 13,000 euros.
