THERed lipstick looks good on everyone: just choose the right shade. The Red lipstick is a cult, a true protagonist in holiday makeup, as well as an always welcome gift. How to find the perfect red? Not all reds are the same and it is not just a question of consistencies, matte or extra glow, but above all of shades.
Red lipstick, how to find the right color
From the classic fiery red through raspberry, brick, geranium up to burgundy, in the color range of red lipsticks there is now a real world of nuances and shades. How to juggle? Starting from a basic distinction: warm reds and cold reds.
Warm reds turn towards orange, cold ones contain a more or less marked quantity of blue pigments. These can include classic reds, for example fiery red, but also various shades of plum and brick. The initial choice, in addition to personal tastes, must therefore consider the “temperature” of the colors: personal natural colors should be consistent with those of the lipstick. Warm skin and complexions prefer warm lipstick shades, and vice versa.
The color scheme of red lipstick
In addition to the type of red, hot or cold, contrasts are added: for example, Dita Von Teese has very high contrasts between skin and hair, diaphanous skin and jet-black hair; on the contrary, Jennifer Lopez, golden all year round, with caramel hair, has it low. The lipstick must also take this into account: the clearer the contrast, the more decisive the nuance on the lips will be, and vice versa.
Diane Kruger and Margot Robbie are two beauties with delicate, low-contrast natural colors: in this case, to give more punch to their beauty, they can choose an intense red like raspberry. Women like Monica Bellucci, a typical Mediterranean, also wear nuances of fiery red or dark red, such as carmine or burgundy, and so on.
To recap. On brunettes, go ahead fire tone. If your skin is light, choose dark shades, from burgundy onwards.
What about blondes? Usually, cold reds flatter those with light blond hair and blue eyes; those with amber skin, however, can show off bright red nuances. Strawberry blondes or natural redheads focus on vermilion red.
How to apply red lipstick
Other attentions? The Dark red lipstick tends to make lips appear smaller, which is why it is not recommended for already thin ones. Conversely, the brighter shades tend to optically “widen” the lips focus. Those who have naturally cancerous lips can try the so-called Korean lips, i.e. the application of color by dabbing it only on the center of the lips.
Another trick: although fashionable, matte lipsticks tend to “harden” the focus of the mouth. Over 50 and in case of already dry lips, they could be more suitable more hydrating and shiny textures.
Before applying any red lipstick, it is important use a lip scrub to eliminate any hangnails and dryness. Besides, you might as well contour your mouth with a lip pencil in the same shade as your lipstick. Finally, a classic: for avoid “migrations” on the smile, just dab the excess product with a tissue paper.
