Bad news from biathlon star Franziska Preuß: The German high-flyer has caught a double infection. You are threatened with a forced break.

Biathlon world champion Franziska Preuß is worried about the second Biathlon World Cup. The 31-year-old got a double infection at the start in Östersund and was lying flat.

“Unfortunately, I got influenza & Corona last week. Things are looking up, but we still have to wait and drink tea. Fingers crossed that the energy comes back quickly!” wrote the overall World Cup winner on Instagram.

The second World Cup weekend this season starts on Friday in Hochfilzen, Austria. The highlight of the season is the Winter Olympics in Italy and South Tyrol (Antholz).

The German biathlete had already missed the sprint and the subsequent pursuit in Östersund last week due to illness.

Sore throat turns out to be influenza and corona

“In order not to jeopardize the further course of the season, we decided together with her not to take any risks in order to restore competitiveness as quickly as possible,” said team doctor Jan Wüstenfeld, explaining the German number one’s withdrawal last week.

At the start of the World Cup winter, she unexpectedly weakened in the relay (1 penalty lap/11th place) and came 29th in the individual. In addition, she didn’t show the expected level on the cross-country ski trail. “To be honest, I’m unsettled by the running time. The fact that we’re a little way away now. It’s what it is now and I hope that I can improve. Because I don’t feel that bad,” said Preuß, who was somewhat perplexed after the individual.

She then complained of a sore throat, and now the bitter news of her illness followed.

After an operation on his sinuses, Preuß had an optimal season for the first time last winter. Among other things, she won four World Cup medals.
