Success of the documentary – mother spoke out for the first time

The four-part reckoning documentary “Sean Combs – The Reckoning” is currently topping the Netflix series charts in 36 countries. The series traces the life of Sean “Diddy” Combs so far – including the court case from the summer of 2025 in which the rapper had to answer allegations of sexual abuse, human trafficking and involvement in prostitution. The series also contains dozens of scenes with family members. Janice Combs, mother of the music mogul, did not want to be part of the production, but has now shared her opinion about it with the public.

In a statement to Deadline, the 85-year-old spoke about the Netflix format for the first time. She wanted to clear up “all the lies” and “inaccuracies” about her son’s “upbringing and family life”. The documentary was produced by Curtis James Jackson III, better known by his stage name 50 Cent, and directed by Alexandria Stapleton.

She never hit her son

At the beginning of the statement, the mother asserted that she was never violent towards Sean “Diddy” Combs – contrary to what is portrayed in the series. As a “single mother” she worked up to “four jobs” at the same time in order to offer her son a good life and the necessary conditions for it. She raised the founder of “Bad Boy Entertainment” with “love and hard work” and described Combs as always a “hard-working, determined overachiever” and “respectful”.

Her son never hit her

A former colleague and friend of Sean “Diddy” Combs spoke in an interview sequence in the documentary about allegedly seeing him hit Janice Combs. The mother also vehemently rejected these allegations.

She told Deadline: “Furthermore, Mr. Kirk Burrows’ allegations that my son hit me during our conversation following the tragic events at City College on December 28, 1991 are inaccurate and patently false. That was a very sad day for all of us. That he is using this tragedy and incorporating misrepresentations to further his previously failed and current attempt to acquire something that was never his, Bad Boy Records, is false, outrageous and beyond.” offensive.”

The event was a 1991 charity basketball game organized by Combs in New York. Nine people died in a mass panic.
