A cheerful opening with mixed feelings. Last Wednesday, the first children entered the free skating rink, which is built every year. The first skaters carefully entered the skating floor, which consists of a stack of plates. Because skating involves trial and error, just like on a real ice rink.

Moments earlier, Richard de Beer, together with his wife Mieke and fellow volunteer Cleo Hogeweg, was busy with the last jobs. Richard will be ‘district head’ of the Christmas spectacle in Wervershoof for the next three weeks. He has been involved in the winter festival for years and reflects extensively on the loss of Frank ten Hoope. He passed away earlier this year.
