Lando Norris is Formula 1 world champion for the first time. Immediately after the race, the Brit was highly emotional – and shed tears.

Immediately after the race, the exhausted Norris interviewed the winner – and shed tears of joy in front of the audience at the Yas Marina Circuit.

“I haven’t cried in a very long time,” said an overjoyed Norris in the interview. “I thought I wouldn’t cry, but I did.”

“It’s been a long journey. First of all, I would like to say thank you to all my people at McLaren, my parents,” Norris continued – and had to pause again, overwhelmed. “Don’t cry again,” he said jokingly to himself and continued with the thanks. “My mother, my father, they are the ones who have supported me from the beginning,” explained Norris – and his voice faltered again. “Now I look like a loser,” he laughed.

“It feels incredible,” Norris struggled to compose himself. “I would also like to congratulate Max (dethroned world champion Max Verstappen, editor’s note) and Oscar (Norris’ teammate Oscar Piastri, editor’s note), my biggest competitors. It was a pleasure to race against them, but I also learned a lot from both of them. I enjoyed it. It was a long year, but we did it. We did it.” What’s more: “There aren’t many people in the world who were able to experience what I was able to experience this year. I’m just incredibly happy.”
