Insulating your home is a lot of work. The municipality of Noordenveld offers a helping hand. And the Tolner family home serves as an example.

“This has been offered to us and the municipality is helping us with this,” says resident Derk Tolner. “And any additional costs are paid by the municipality. Our house is a model home.”

“The aim of this project is that you can also show that you can switch a 1970s home off gas,” says energy advisor Reinier Bruil. “What is needed for this is insulation, ventilation and sustainable techniques for heating and hot tap water.

Assenaar commits femicide, says the Public Prosecution Service

The 80-year-old man from Assen, suspected of killing his wife, committed femicide. The public prosecutor said this in court on Tuesday during the first hearing in this case. The body of the 72-year-old woman was found in August in the Noord-Willems Canal near Tynaarlo.

“He allegedly killed her during an outburst of anger because she did not want sex with him,” said RTV Drenthe reporter Hjalmar Guit. “According to the public prosecutor, this is therefore a case of femicide.”

The suspect will remain in custody for at least the next three months. The case will be substantively dealt with at the end of 2026.

Emergency debate about departure of BBB deputy

An emergency debate in the provincial government about the departure of BBB deputy Egbert van Dijk. According to him, his own party is working against him. BBB deputy Gert-Jan Schuinder survives a vote of no confidence. There is no further crisis in the council. And the PvdA in particular has difficulty with this.

RTV Drenthe reporter Serge Vinkenvlieg: “Faction chairman Hendrikus Loof of the PvdA said ‘well, I will draw a yellow card, this is the last time’, and the PvdA wants to influence which BBB victim will return later. In short, a final warning, but they will continue to hold each other in the College.”

Flutter ribbons against wolves

“So far it’s going well,” says sheep farmer Lambert Pijl about a new way to keep wolves at a distance from livestock.

It involves special fluttering ribbons that are supposed to scare off the wolves, but will that help?

“If you look at the Veluwe, they simply go over one meter eighty,” says Pijl. “About 130 sheep were also dead at Barneveld. The wolves just jump over them. They are used to that. If an animal wants food, they simply take more risks.”

Concerns about car fires in Asser neighborhoods

Assen has been ravaged by fires for a month. This is especially the case in the Pittelo and Noorderpark districts. Nine cars have recently gone up in flames there. Residents are concerned. Additional lighting should provide a safer feeling.

“The amount of light here gives you a bit of a protective feeling. You see it more clearly, you can keep an eye on everything better,” says a local resident. “You almost feel like you’re in a stadium at night, but it helps,” says another.
