The man who took three employees hostage in the prison in Vught on Friday is indeed Corné H. (29), who was awaiting TBS treatment. His lawyer confirmed this on Saturday evening.
Until Saturday evening, official sources had not yet confirmed that it was Corné H., but his lawyer has now done so.
H. took three prison employees hostage on Friday. One of them was soon released. Later the other two were also brought to safety. H. was arrested on Friday.
Cell and TBS for hostage taking in Ede
It is not the first time that H. held people. In March last year he took four people hostage in a café in Ede. There, in December last year, the court imposed a sentence of nine months in prison and TBS for the hostage-taking in Ede. He was also declared less accountable.
The verdict was lower than the Public Prosecution Service’s demand, because the judge thought it was important that H. could start his treatment as soon as possible. Serving a prison sentence would ‘stand in the way’ of this, was the opinion.
Discussions that a psychologist and psychiatrist had with Corné H. at the time showed that the action in Ede was a cry for help, as also emerged during the hearing at the time.
PI Vught files a report
The Vught PI plans to report the hostage situation in Vught, it was reported on Saturday. It is not clear how the hostage situation could have happened. It is also not known whether the suspect had a weapon. Neither does where the suspect is now. The police only report that the investigation is ongoing and do not want to say anything further.
