Defeat against Schalke

Under new coach Markus beginning, Fortuna Düsseldorf has only achieved one win in eight games so far. Far too little for the demands of the second division team, which has now slipped to 14th place in the table, but started with the goal of promotion. Goalkeeper and captain Florian Kastenmeier burst his collar after the 0-2 defeat against FC Schalke 04.

“This is a very difficult situation,” the 28-year-old began on “Sky” and explained: “If you have 25,000 Schalke players here at home who are cheering at the end and you end up with zero points and don’t reward yourself for a good first half, then that is very difficult. We have a one-on-one against the goalkeeper with one man less in the 70th minute and miss the shot. I think Loris (Karius, note. d. Editor) didn’t even have to use his gloves today. We don’t shoot on goal, we don’t shoot anything into the goal and we’re not there in the crucial moments.

F95 played outnumbered from the 55th minute onwards after Tim Oberdorf received a yellow-red card. A good quarter of an hour before the end, Christian Rasmussen could have made it 1-1, but pushed the ball past the goal on the left. Düsseldorf have only scored 13 goals this season, which, together with 1. FC Magdeburg, is the worst in the 2nd Bundesliga. Kastenmeier was correspondingly annoyed about the current situation: “I stand here every week, have to babble something out of my head and in the end it’s the same shit every time. To be honest, I’m out of words, out of energy. In the end we’re at the bottom, have no goals, no points, concede too many goals. That hurts very, very much.”

Fortuna Düsseldorf: Criticism of the beginning coach is growing

Trainer is also coming under increasing criticism. The 51-year-old has only one win and one draw and six defeats. According to information from “Bild”, doubts grow everywhere at the beginning. The newspaper also speculates as to whether the coach would already be on the verge of elimination if sports director Klaus Allofs’ resignation announcement didn’t outshine everything.

“The team has given me the signal that no one will surrender. We can do all of this badly, but we have to concentrate on the content. The course of the game often doesn’t match the results. It’s annoying when you don’t get any points, it’s annoying when you don’t win. But that spurs me on even more, it gives me a feeling of now-of-the-more. Now it’s time to put on the helmet and get through it. It’s all the nicer when you get out,” said Start after the final whistle against the Royal Blues. The next opponents until the winter break are SV Elversberg (A) and Greuther Fürth (H).
