Ski jumping world champion disqualified after qualifying victory

Since the Norwegian men’s ski jumping scandal, the men’s material has been looked at even more closely. In the case of women, this had consequences for an athlete.
The Slovenian Nika Prevc actually won the qualifying competition on the large hill in Wisla in Poland on Thursday. But the athlete couldn’t be happy about her victory after a jump of 119 meters: she was subsequently disqualified.
The reason for this: According to the regulations of the international ski association FIS, Prevc’s skis were one centimeter too long. The Slovenian weighed 100 grams too little for the length of her skis.
Due to the disqualification, the two-time world champion was not allowed to take part in the evening jumping. There the Norwegian Anna Odine Strøm secured victory. Selina Freitag was the best German, finishing in sixth place. The jumps of 116 and 125.5 meters were also the 24-year-old’s best results of the season so far.
Agnes Reisch took 11th place, Katharina Schmid came 12th. National coach Heinz Kuttin said afterwards about his team’s performance: “The path is right. That makes us confident about the rest of the season.”
After Wisla there is still a home competition in Klingenthal and the World Cup in Engelberg in Switzerland. Around the turn of the year, the two-night tour takes place with competitions in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberstdorf. There will be a Four Hills Tournament for women for the first time in the winter of 2026/27.
