Most residents have now returned to their homes, but there is a lot of fear. The son of a resident of the apartment says that his 81-year-old mother called him in the middle of the night. “I’m on the street because everything is on fire,” was her message.

The resident’s mother was ‘very shocked’. “The flames broke over the balustrade. My mother couldn’t get out, she didn’t dare. So the fire brigade broke it open and freed her. She grabbed her bag and went outside with her phone.”

Flames from the apartment

A local resident across the street was awakened last night by the sound of glass shattering, shouting and honking. “Then we looked across and flames were coming out of the flat.”

A resident who wishes to remain anonymous says he was ‘quite shocked’. “We heard the firefighters and sirens and smelled the air through the apartment building.”

According to him, it was a big fire with flames coming out of the windows. He doesn’t want to talk too much about the neighbor, but the fire didn’t come as a surprise to him either. “I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened at some point.”
