The Den Bosch court convicted two young men on Friday for the gang rape of a 31-year-old homeless woman in Helmond. An 18-year-old man receives four months of youth detention and the 19-year-old man receives twelve months, three of which are conditional.

On the night of December 16, 2023, the woman was sitting alone on a bench in the Burgemeester Geukerspark in Helmond when a group of five boys surrounded her and brutally raped her several times. Officers later found the woman in the park with her pants around her knees.

Complicit
According to the court, the 19-year-old boy was guilty of gang rape together with others. Although he did not sexually penetrate the woman, the court finds him complicit. The boy must also pay the victim compensation of 15,000 euros for this.

The 18-year-old boy was acquitted of rape, but convicted of assaulting the woman. The court also agrees with the rulings made by the court in January.

The court does find that the 18-year-old boy must also pay compensation to the woman. This concerns an amount of 5,000 euros.

Big impact
This is partly because the rape still happened always has a major impact on the victim’s life. A rape in a public park also creates a feeling of insecurity in society.

The other three suspects were given fifteen months in January, three of which were conditional. They must also pay the victim compensation of more than 15,000 euros.
