The municipality of Tynaarlo offers “sincere apologies” after some of the residents in the Ter Borch area had to learn through the media that an asylum seeker center is opening in their area. Not all letters containing the news were delivered before it became public in the media.
After the council’s decision last Tuesday, a letter was drawn up and sent to the postal company. The intention was to have it delivered to local residents on Thursday morning, but due to crowds it was delivered five days later than expected.
Reports that local residents had not been informed in time also reached RTV Drenthe. In addition, several objections have been raised against the decision. It also states that people had to learn the news through the media.
Media were asked to wait with the news until 3 p.m. so that local residents could read the letter first. “Unfortunately, some local residents had to hear the news through the media. We understand that this may have been painful and unsatisfactory, and we deeply regret this,” the municipality said.
According to a spokesperson, the municipality still received signals from people who had not received anything. A letter of apology was then drawn up and the letter was distributed again by municipal employees themselves.
