While RTL had blacklisted the horror film Sint because it featured Black Petes, Talpa simply broadcast that film without any objections. Why is that? “It’s fiction,” it sounds.
RTL decided in 2019 to never broadcast the horror film Sint by director Dick Maas again because it featured Black Petes. “The license for Saint Nicholas expired last month. We did not renew it because we have a ‘Chimney Piet policy’. It has been for years,” it said at the time. The rights then moved to Talpa.
One way or another
John de Mol’s media company also broadcast Sint again last night, namely on Veronica. “Hey, that’s striking,” says TV authority Tina Nijkamp. “RTL previously banned the film in 2019, when they had the rights, because it featured traditional Pieten.”
She continues on her analysis channel: “Films with traditional Pieten are never broadcast on TV or on streaming services anymore. I asked Talpa how or what.”
Talpa responds
Talpa responds briefly but powerfully to Tina’s question. They point out that Saint Nicholas is simply fiction. “The film is popular and the events are far removed from everyday reality.”
Tina concludes: “Take note of that.”
