Paula Hartmann and Berq release the dark EP “Opposite of Happiness”. Four songs about pain, failed love and vulnerability.

The new EP “Opposite of Glück” was released on December 5th. Paula Hartmann and Berq teamed up for the project. The EP deals with the topic of pain and, above all, the fact when love between two people no longer works, but only hurts. The songs are correspondingly dark and demand a lot from you.

The pre-release single of the same name from November 21st set this tone and gave a clear outlook on what to expect from the EP. It is a mix of clear language, vulnerable honesty and musical gravity.

Between modern poetry and dark pop

The three other songs “Pay me back for your pain”, “Knopf” and “Dass du noch mich” continue this character. The songs are about feelings that happen inside and about moments when feelings change. Paula Hartmann’s precise lyricism meets Berq’s impressive vocal presence.

With lines like “You are good, but never good enough / But before I leave you, my courage leaves me,” the two musicians revisit the topic of love and show that on the one hand it binds, but at the same time it can be overwhelming. Dark pop is created with modern lyrics.

Hope possible?

The title “Opposite of Happiness” is also a leitmotif. The four songs make uncertainty and vulnerability audible without pathos, but with a special clarity.

In the end, the only question that remains is: is there still hope or can nothing really change?
