Borsato’s acquittal raises questions: can you be convicted in Belgium on the basis of one statement?

Singer Marco Borsato has been acquitted across the board, because according to Dutch law no one can be convicted in a sexual offense case based on the statement of one witness. There must always be other evidence in the file. Is that also the case in our country? Isn’t it typical of sexual offenses that only the perpetrator and the victim witness them? And what can you do as a victim to ensure that there is evidence? We asked lawyer Manon Cop, who specializes in sexual offenses.
