The Munich team narrowly beat Union in the cup. Harry Kane contributed a goal. However, the striker was also in focus because of a misunderstanding.
FC Bayern Munich is through to the DFB Cup. Coach Vincent Kompany’s team beat Union Berlin 3-2 on Wednesday evening. Also thanks to a goal from Harry Kane. There was also a stir surrounding the striker due to a statement by ZDF commentator Gari Paubandt.
Fans thought they heard from Paubandt during the broadcast when Bayern started an offensive move in the 20th minute: “Luis Díaz… Karl… two whirlwinds, more like hurricanes. Harry Kane is a piece of shit compared to that.” Several viewers then made posts on Platform X and were horrified by the commentator’s choice of words and the alleged comparison.
However, it stands to reason that Paubandt said: “Luis Díaz… Karl… two whirlwinds, more like hurricanes. A hurricane is a piece of shit compared to that.” This would also fit thematically with the connection to the hurricanes. Some fans simply corrected the word “hurricane” in the posted posts on X, which they thought Paubandt said.
In English pronunciation, the word “hurricane” sounds similar to “Harry Kane”, which is probably why the misunderstanding arose. During the broadcast, the ZDF commentator also praised FC Bayern’s star striker.
In addition to Harry Kane, Luis Díaz and 17-year-old Lennart Karl were also in the starting line-up. The latter was in the first eleven for the fourth time in a row, with Serge Gnabry having to sit on the bench. For Karl it was the 18th appearance for the Munich professionals.
