Tata Steel may receive millions of euros in subsidies from the government every year until 2040. This is reported by the Foundation for Research on Multinational Enterprises. Last September, Minister Sophie Hermans of Climate and Green Growth announced that the government wanted to allocate two billion to make the company more sustainable.
But in addition to this declaration of intent, the government makes other commitments, the research shows. This includes subsidies for biomethane, a CO2 storage project in the North Sea and rising network costs. Research shows that this is no longer a one-off amount of two billion euros, but adds up to between 375 and 580 million euros annually.
