FC Bayern prevailed away at Union Berlin in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup. However, some Bayern stars present themselves in inconsistent form.

Clearly in the lead, then still shaky – and in the end just prevailed: FC Bayern are in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup, but had to tremble in the 3:2 (3:1) win at Union Berlin despite temporarily having a two-goal lead.
Bayern’s Konrad Laimer said on ZDF: “The most important thing is that we are through. It was a very, very important victory. In the cup it’s like this: either you’re through or you’re gone.” With a view to the draw next Sunday, the Austrian wanted a home game. He “doesn’t care at all” about his opponent. Meanwhile, Union’s Rani Khedira said the narrow defeat was “unfortunate”.
In a strange game, the 22,012 fans also saw two penalties and own goals each. Last year, the Munich team failed in the cup round of 16 against Bayer Leverkusen. A week after their first defeat of the season against Arsenal FC (1:3), Bayern remains unbeaten in national competitions.
Bayern had a lot of trouble at Union Berlin – just like in the 2-2 draw in the Bundesliga a few weeks ago. The two controversial penalties brought the hosts back on Wednesday evening. In the final phase, the Berliners pushed for the equalizer and wanted to force extra time. But nothing more came of it.
At Bayern, only one top performer had a really good day – others, however, showed too many insecurities. You can read about who lived up to Munich’s expectations and who disappointed in the photo show above or here.
