It happened last Friday, the day the senators were sworn in, and it was the closest thing to a teenage fight. The protagonists were the sister of the President and the vice president and the sequence began with Patricia Bullrich, the new head of the libertarian caucus, asking Victoria Villarruel for one of the boxes in the venue so that Karina Milei and her companions, Manuel Adorni and Diego Santilli, could sit there. To which Villarruel would have retorted: “If she wants it, let her call me.” But Karina didn’t call because she considered it would have been humiliating herself, going to the bottom.

Instead, he ordered that the order be placed through the Ceremonial and Protocol office. According to what the secretary general told her trusted journalists, the request came in late on Thursday, but on Friday the vice president argued that it had not arrived on time.

Karina was the same, pushed by her collaborators. When she entered through the entrance on Hipólito Yrigoyen Street, the security personnel of the Upper House detained her. There was a hint of a struggle between those men and the guards who surrounded the general secretary, but finally sanity prevailed. And Bullrich promised to pull Villarruel’s ear for his rudeness, something that is not known if it happened. According to the version propagated by Karina and the former minister, yes. The vice president remains silent.

It is not the first clash in the war of nerves between Karina and Villarruel. Nor will it be the last. The vice president, who knew how to define Milei with malicious grace as a “little ham in the middle” – imprisoned between her and her sister, of course – is willing to respond blow by blow because she feels that she no longer has anything to lose. The fact is that the fight with the Government has already worn it down in the polls and the only one to whom these misfortunes can generate a political cost today is the President.

The most remembered precedent may be when Villarruel came out to criticize the National Team players for a xenophobic song against Kylian Mbappé in the locker room, and Karina tried to disavow her theatrically by running to the French embassy in Buenos Aires to apologize for the vice president’s words.

This is how the relationship between the two has always been, and this is how it will continue. Prepare the popcorn for what’s coming.
