Record winners FC Bayern face a challenging task in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup. The Munich team, who are still unbeaten nationally this football season, have to play in the round of 16 against 1. FC Union Berlin (from 8:45 p.m. in the t-online live ticker). Coach Vincent Kompany can again rely on Manuel Neuer.
The goalkeeper will return to goal for the first time since his two-game ban in the cup. In the first two rounds, the 39-year-old captain was represented by young star Jonas Urbig.

Compared to last Saturday’s Bundesliga game against FC St. Pauli (3-1), coach Kompany changes three times: Dayot Upamecano, Michael Olise and Josip Stanišić return to the starting eleven. Min-jae Kim, Raphaël Guerreiro and Tom Bischof will initially remain on the bench.
Just over three weeks ago, both teams met in the An der Alten Försterei stadium to fight for Bundesliga points. The German record champions only averted defeat at 2-2 with a goal from Harry Kane in stoppage time. There must be a winner on tonight’s cup evening, at the latest after extra time or in a penalty shootout.
Bayern have always been eliminated from the competition early in the past five seasons. The last cup victory was achieved in 2020. “Of course I want to go back to Berlin after this game, of course,” said coach Kompany with a view to the final on May 23, 2026 in the Olympic Stadium.
