Three million euros are needed for the first phase of the redevelopment of De Baete sports park in Ruinen. The council proposes this to the municipal council, based on the preferred scenario.

The plan for the redesign was drawn up after an extensive participation process, which included a sounding board group, various stakeholders and residents.

The municipal council also discussed the future of the sports park during a meeting earlier. “The Baete has been an important meeting place for Ruinen for years,” says councilor Gerrie Hempen. “With this decision, we are taking the next step together towards a future-proof, multifunctional and social sports park.”

The project is being developed in several phases. With the proposed starting budget of 3 million euros, building designs can be made and preparations can be made for the tender. The total investment will later be recorded in the phasing and financing plan. This also includes the new assessment framework for investments, which is expected to be adopted in July 2026.

The chosen scenario turns De Baete into a multifunctional exercise park with a central sports boulevard that connects sports, games and meetings. Accessibility for cyclists and pedestrians will be improved and parking spaces will be better distributed across the site. Attention is also paid to extra greenery and water storage.

The plan also provides for a new central building for the Ruinen football club and the Ruinen Open Air Game Foundation. A multifunctional collective building will be built for tennis club TC Runa, Ravotti, the Association for Popular Entertainment and Stichting Evenementen Ruinen, among others. De Baete will also have a safe running route and a paved ice rink with a scratch track, which can also be used as a parking lot during events.

In the near future, the municipality will work with users on a detailed plan. It states which components will be implemented when and what contribution the parties involved make. The future use of the vacant space on the northeast side of the sports park will also be examined – a subject about which local residents have many questions.
