The Hamburg mail order company Otto has set new records during its recent Black Friday campaigns.
During the two-week promotional period, which lasted from November 18 to December 1, order values increased by 2.5 percent compared to the previous high reached last year, the company said on Tuesday. On Black Friday itself they even exceeded the previous year’s level by ten percent. The most popular product categories included fashion items, game consoles, vacuum cleaners and hot air fryers.
The retailer was also able to gain numerous new customers. Three percent of orders during the promotional period were placed by people who had “never bought from Otto before,” the company explained.
Outgoing CEO Marc Opelt highlighted the importance of the positive results. “Black Friday and the surrounding promotional days are crucial for our overall balance,” he explained in a statement. “The fact that we were able to grow again in this phase despite the still tense consumer climate makes us confident for the end of the year.”
