Two taxi drivers were caught driving under the influence during a check in the city center of Breda last Saturday evening. A driver was under the influence of alcohol. The other was under the influence of drugs. During the police and municipality’s inspection of taxi drivers, other fines were also issued and violations were noted.
Employees of the Supervision and Enforcement department and the municipality’s Social Investigation Department conducted a check with police specialists on Saturday from eight in the evening to three in the morning. The action was aimed at taxi drivers, but drivers of other vehicles were also fined. Traffic violations were also noted that require further investigation:
- 1 time Article 8 alcohol
- 1 time Article 8 drugs
- 1 parking ban at a taxi stand
- 1 instance of suspension of driving license because a driver was driving 122 kilometers per hour where 50 kilometers per hour is permitted
- 1 time an MOT that had expired 6 months
- 1 time exceeding the maximum speed of a moped by 20 kilometers per hour
- 1 time exceeding the maximum speed limit by 40 kilometers per hour
A number of taxi drivers had bad luck. Fines were immediately issued to them:
- 2 rates card not visible
- 1 time driver card not present in the systems
- Transport 1 time more people than permitted
- 1 report to the tax authorities because motor vehicle tax had been stopped
- 2 times unnecessary noise
The municipality’s Social Investigation Department also conducts research into how long and often taxi drivers work, whether they work while on sick leave or receive other benefits. The team also investigates whether they work as drivers while they are not officially registered and payment is made in a different way.
