Sandro Wagner’s commitment as head coach of FC Augsburg ends prematurely. Now the ex-professional has commented on it.
Late on Monday afternoon, FC Augsburg confirmed the departure of head coach Sandro Wagner, which various media had previously reported on.
In the club’s announcement, which states that they have mutually decided to terminate Wagner’s contract, which actually runs until 2028, the fired head coach also has his say. “I have always carried out my role at FCA with great energy and passion. We wanted to change a lot together, but unfortunately we did not succeed in doing so in such a short time as we had hoped,” Wagner is quoted as saying. “I would like to thank everyone responsible for the trustful cooperation they have always had. I wish the club only the best for the future.”
The decision is the result of open discussions between managing director Michael Ströll, sports director Benni Weber and Sandro Wagner, the club statement continues. With Wagner, his coaching team also has to leave the club.
The club also confirmed that Manuel Baum would take over as FCA head coach on an interim basis until the winter break and prepare the team for the remaining three Bundesliga games.
“In the discussions after the game in Hoffenheim, we realized that there was a lack of faith and conviction that we could achieve a turnaround in the current situation,” said Ströll. “For us, the well-being of the FCA is always at the center of every decision we make and that is why we have come to this decision.”
Wagner “has initiated important processes in the past few months and has worked with great commitment for the FCA, and we thank him for that,” added Weber. “As a club, we are convinced of the path we have chosen and will continue to pursue it. Now it is important to achieve stability and score points in the coming games.”
