After the bankruptcy of the Riva brewery in 2007, it was decided to save the facade and incorporate it into a new construction project. But those plans were delayed, causing the facade to become increasingly unstable and even crumbling.
Mayor Koenraad Degroote is now having the facade demolished, but later partially rebuilt. The new construction project has still not been approved due to various objections.
