There is friction between Red Bull and Mercedes.
In the energy drink company’s camp, some harsh accusations were made about the situation in the final moments of the Qatari GP held on Sunday, where the leader of the World Series Lando Norris passed by Kimi Antonelli and came fourth.
It could have been an important pass for the championship. Max Verstappen drove to victory in Qatar, but thanks to two “extra points”, Norris gets to the final race with 12 points.
– I don’t know what happened to Antonelli. It looked like he just moved to the side and let Norri, the Dutch race engineer, pass Gianpiero Lambiase announced on the team radio.
The view was more widely shared at Red Bull. It was confirmed by the team advisor Helmut Markowho said the Italian just waved when the Briton checked ahead.
– It was more than clear, Marko rumbled According to Bild.
Wolff scowled
Mercedes team manager Toto Wolff answered Marko quite bluntly.
– That is complete nonsense. How can someone be so brainless as to say such a thing? Wolff updated.
– We are fighting for second place in the manufacturers’ WC statistics. At that point, Kim had a chance to get third. Claims like this piss me off.
Wolff emphasized that it was a mistake made by Antonelli.
– That kind of thing hurts. And why would we even want to interfere in the drivers’ World Cup race? Maybe he (Marko) should get a medical checkup because he seems to be seeing ghosts.
Marko’s response to the Mersu boss’s comments was still sought.
The Austrian sent another jab in Antonelli’s direction by claiming that he had also given way to McLaren earlier in the race For Oscar Piastr.
– If you do that twice, you can say it out loud.
