The Netherlands is making an additional contribution of €250 million in military support for Ukraine. This is done via the so-called Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL). In this way, the Netherlands supplies weapons from American stock that Ukraine needs most urgently, such as air defense and F-16 ammunition. The new contribution has just been announced by Minister Ruben Brekelmans in Brussels.
The PURL support packages contain resources that Ukraine urgently needs and that cannot be delivered in any other way. Consider, for example, equipment and missiles for air defense, but also F-16 ammunition and unmanned systems.
Minister Ruben Brekelmans: “This weekend was yet another sad low point in the Russian air terror campaign. Ukraine urgently needs more military support to defend itself against these air attacks and to get through the tough winter. With this support of € 250 million through PURL, the Netherlands is making a substantial contribution to this.
The peace negotiations must not distract from the full and massive support of Ukraine, the minister continues. “It is very important to keep up the pressure on Russia. Both through diplomatic and economic channels, and through military supplies to Ukraine. This strengthens Ukraine’s position at the negotiating table. With this new contribution, the Netherlands is once again showing that our support continues unabated. It is very important that all European allies continue to contribute. After all, it is about the security of all of us.”
Earlier support package
Earlier this year, the Netherlands was the first NATO partner to donate a full PURL support package to Ukraine. Various other allies have now also made their contribution.
