The municipality wants to strengthen care for seriously ill residents. A completely new hospice department must ensure that residents can spend their final phase of life in peace and close to family.
Informal caregivers also receive extra support, as do seniors who need accessible meeting places.
Mobility and infrastructure
Zwevegem is investing 8 million euros in roads and footpaths, redesigning Bekaertstraat and expanding slow roads. Parking will be improved and cycling infrastructure and Hoppin points will be provided to encourage sustainable transport. Major sewerage works and the restoration of the Transfo site and the municipal park ensure an upgraded public domain.
Safe and engaged community
The plan provides more security through neighborhood information networks, local police officers and camera surveillance. The new district post of the MIRA police zone and the fire station at Evolis will receive infrastructure investments of 3.3 million euros.
Participation and involvement of residents, associations and entrepreneurs are central. A citizen budget offers residents the opportunity to submit their own projects.
Culture, education and leisure
The multi-year plan invests in associations, youth and leisure activities, and the new construction of part-time art education on the Kappaert site (15.5 million euros). The plan aims to enable maximum cultural and sporting experiences and make optimal use of existing municipal buildings.
Sustainability and climate
In the plan, Zwevegem also emphasizes climate adaptation, softening, energy efficiency and water management. Collaboration with local farmers and sustainable urban development strengthen the impact of policies in the long term.
Next steps
The multi-year plan will be discussed in the municipal committees on December 3 and 10 and will be presented to the municipal council on December 15. The municipality links the plan to the 2nd Tour of Zwevegem in early 2026, where residents can see specifically how their input has been incorporated into policy.
