On Sunday evening, Ajax played against FC Groningen at home. After 6 minutes the match was marred when fireworks were thrown onto the field by Ajax’s hard core of supporters. It was a tribute to a deceased fan. After a 40-minute interruption, fireworks were set off again immediately after the restart. The match was then permanently stopped. Football chief Valentijn Driessen explains what the KNVB should do. Ajax says in a press release that it finds what happened in the stadium tonight absolutely scandalous and apologizes.
