SJK said that they hired a fresh Finnish champion.

Jarkko Wiss53, is SJK’s new head coach. The club tells on their websitethat the master coach’s deal covers the years 2026 and 2027.

Wiss piloted KuPS to the Finnish champion in the season that ended. In addition, he led the Kuopio club to the group stage of the Conference League in Eurocourts.

Wiss will transfer to SJK after KuPS’s last group stage match, which will be played on December 18. According to SJK, the konkari coach does not start his actual work until after the turn of the year, when team training starts at the beginning of January.

– We have already talked about my possible return to Seinäjoki, and I am particularly fascinated by the combination of wanting to succeed and at the same time create clear development paths for young players and help them move forward in their careers, Wiss states.

SJK has not yet set official goals for Wiss, but the coach already has a clear vision for the future.

– Of course, the goal is to at least get to the European courts and get a few successful players from the player pipeline to the national team. Even from the current group, there will definitely be regular players, and we want to help them move forward as well.

According to Wiss, SJK will have a lot of possession under him.

– A clear structure and models are also important so that the team can survive even difficult moments. Football is about getting results, and you can do it in many ways, but yes, we want to control the ball as much as possible, Wiss says.

Before joining KuPS, Wiss coached Ilve from 2016 to 2021 and FC Inter in the 2023 season. Wiss was fired from Turku in November 2023 after he had behaved inappropriately towards a female employee of the club.

During his playing career, Wiss represented, among others, TPV, Jaro, HJK and Tampere United. The man also played abroad at the turn of the 2000s. Wiss played 45 matches in the Finnish national team.
