It was also restless in the neighborhood last night. “Several pallets and one dixie were then set on fire,” said the fire brigade spokesperson. “Of course we don’t know whether the same people are behind it.” The police made one arrest this afternoon and are continuing to investigate the arsons.
Dissatisfaction
There is currently dissatisfaction among a group of Floradorp residents about the cancellation of the bonfire on New Year’s Eve. Mayor Halsema installed cameras after several incidents earlier this week. An explosion also occurred near one of those cameras.
“We see that there is a hard core in Floradorp who clings to the bonfire on the field, while we have been receiving negative advice from the fire brigade for years,” the mayor said yesterday on AT5. According to Halsema, there is also another group of local residents. “Some of the Floradorpers are afraid of the escalation of the fire and of people who are misbehaving at the moment.”
