The former Arsenal and Barcelona star, now a coach and commentator, has launched harsh criticism of the German championship, questioning the competitiveness of the Bundesliga compared to the Premier League
Thierry Henry didn’t tell them when it came to giving his opinion on the various championships in Europe. Spoken on Sky Sports UKthe former French football star gave a harsh assessment of the Bundesliga, describing it as a championship “easy” compared to the Premier League. “Bundesliga players always leave me very perplexed”he declared. “In that league you can create many opportunities, assist and score, simply by running. But in the Premier League, the players have skill and keep up: for those coming from Germany it’s really tough.”
The words of the former champion sparked a heated debate between professionals and fans, dividing European sports public opinion.

Henry therefore believes that a player who is good in the Bundesliga may struggle in the Premier League. These considerations come at a particularly delicate moment for Florian Wirtzwho struggles to repeat the brilliant performances offered to Liverpool with Liverpool Bayer Leverkusen. But he’s not the only one. Also Xavi Simonstoday at Tottenham, is not as enchanting as in his time at Leipzig. Henry, however, doesn’t just point the finger at the players, but at the modern football as a whole. “Today, many fewer opportunities are created. Teams close down, spaces are reduced. If coaches don’t leave young people the freedom to dribble and make mistakes, how can they grow?”, he added.
With his intervention, Thierry Henry wanted to send a clear message: talent it is built through risk and freedom of expression. The Bundesliga, according to him, does not offer the same pressure and intensity of the Premier League, making it more difficult for German (and not only) players to establish themselves at the highest international levels. The statements of the former French champion thus rekindle an old debate: the Premier League Is it really the only proving ground for the best talents in world football?
