Ronit Palache hugged Wierd Duk behind the scenes before she went all out on him on television, he says in Today Inside. “I had none at all beef with her,” he says.
It has caused quite a stir: Wierd Duk’s decision to walk away from the NPO talk show Dit is de Week last weekend, after opinion maker Ronit Palache decided to denounce his working methods there. However, it was not agreed in advance that he would be measured there, and that is why the Telegraaf star receives a lot of support.
Slimmer and better
Has Wierd spoken to Ronit or other people involved behind the scenes? “I just ran away and drove home. A free Saturday evening, yes. I thought: I’ll be home on time,” he says in Today Inside.
According to Ronit, she and Wierd know each other from the past, at Elsevier. Did they already have a ticket then? “Well, not right at all,” he responds. “We worked together with Elsevier. Then she did the web editing there. She also looked different then. Well, younger, let me put it that way. A little slimmer and better.”
No beef
There was no argument at the time, according to Wierd. “No, I didn’t have any at all beef with her too. I got there and welcomed her, even a hug and stuff. I thought, it’s fine. So I’m sitting there very naively at that table and then it turns out that she hates that lady intensely. She had planned to commit that attack on me.”
“I sat there and thought: what’s going on here, man? With that phone she started mentioning all kinds of things and so on. I thought: yes, hello, that’s not what I came for.”
Own opinion
Wilfred Genee, who once exploded after a critical interview in Op1 – he started shouting loudly at Fidan Ekiz -, does not understand Wierd. “Surely you can defend your own opinion when challenged? What nonsense, man!”
Wierd: “No, but Wilfred, listen! (…) I thought: I can now try to prove my point – I can’t convince her because she hates me – but then it will become a dispute or an argument. Who wants an argument at the dinner table? Maybe nice TV, but I didn’t feel like arguing.”
